Boys’ soccer season ends in wildcard round of playoffs
March 28, 2011
After failing to qualify for CIF last year, boys’ soccer was able to secure a spot this season in the playoffs. Finishing the season in fourth place with a league record of 5-7, the team competed against Tustin High School in the wildcard round of CIF.
However, the ball did not bounce the teams’ way as it had four shots deflect off the post. The Wildcats ended up dropping the game to the Tillers, 3-1, marking the end of their season.
“We lost because of simple mistakes that could have been fixed by communicating,” said Josh Castillo, junior. “I thought we had a good chance of making a run in CIF but things did not seem to go our way.”
Although the team finished with an overall record of 9-13-1, it did rely on the play of its young players which bodes well for next year’s squad.
The Wildcats will be returning 17 players including seven starters, among which are the three top goal scorers from this season.
“As a unit we know we are more than capable of succeeding in league next year,” said Andrew Castillo, junior. “Most of us have been playing together for quite some time now and with our experience and chemistry, a league title is within our reach.”
